What to Bring to the Hospital
For the Labor or Birthing Room
- A watch or clock with a second hand or one with a digital timer that will show the seconds. This is helpful for timing contractions.
- Your favorite music CDs that can help soothe you
- A camera, tape recorder and/or video equipment to catch those magic moments
- Powders, lotions or massaging oils that you like
- A hairbrush if you like having your hair brushed for comfort
- A tennis ball or plastic rolling pin for a counter massage should lower backache become a problem
- Sugarless lollipops to help keep your mouth moist
- Heavy socks in case your feet become cold
- A brown bag lunch or snack for dad or the coach
- A bottle of champagne or sparking cider to toast the newest member of your family (The staff can put it in a refrigerator until you want it.)
For the Hospital Room
- A robe
- Perfume, powder or body spray...whatever makes you feel fresh.
- Toiletries, including shampoo, toothpaste, lotion, makeup, and any other beauty or hygiene products you may want
- Sanitary pads
- A going-home outfit for you (remember, you'll still have a sizeable abdomen)
- A going-home outfit for the baby – a stretch suit, t-shirt, booties, and a blanket if it is cold
