Childbirth Preparation Series

Prepare for your baby’s arrival with calm and confidence. Learn about the many choices you can consider as you near the end of your pregnancy: nutrition, comfort during late pregnancy, physical and emotional experiences of labor for mothers and partners, comfort techniques (breathing, relaxation, massage, etc) for labor and birth, medications and medical procedures, postpartum care for mother and baby, and so much more! Class includes a birthing center tour, videos and handouts. Week seven of the eight-week series is the Breastfeeding Class and week eight is the Newborn Care Class. Plan to complete your class two to three weeks before your due date.

Time: 7 to 9:30 pm

Fee: $85 for Birth Preparation Class Series, Breastfeeding, Newborn Care, and Fathers Classes

Intensive Weekend Class

Learn "the basics" in one weekend. This class is designed for families with work or personal conflict with the regular Childbirth Preparation Series (which allows for more effective practice and question time!).

Time: Fridays 7 to 9:30 pm; Saturdays 9 am to 5 pm

Fee: $105 for a two-day class, includes: Breastfeeding, Newborn Care, and Fathers Classes.

Preparation for Birth While on Bedrest - by Mail
If a complicated pregnancy prevents you from attending class, you can still have access to the essential childbirth education materials at home. The self-study packet includes handouts to make sure you are prepared. Call 503.435.6537 to request materials and make payment arrangements.

Refresher Childbirth Class

Brush up on your labor and birth choices: breathing and relaxation, birthing options and pain relief techniques, medications and medical procedures. Every labor is unique, feel prepared!

Time: 7 to 9:30 pm

Fee: $40 for four-week Birth Prep Class, Breastfeeding, Newborn Care, & Fathers Classes

Breastfeeding Class

Breastfeeding is natural, but doesn't always come naturally! This class helps you get off to a confident start with your baby, with information about the great benefits of breastfeeding, community resources for support, how breastfeeding works for mothers and baby, and what to do if you face challenges. Suitable for first-time as well as experienced parents.

Time: 7 to 9:30 pm

Fee: This class is included in the Childbirth and Refresher series fee; can be taken individually for $15.

Fathers Class

The father's experience in pregnancy, labor, birth and parenting is important. This class is an opportunity for expectant and new fathers to share information, find perspective, and gain guidance from experienced fathers/professionals. Men only, please.

Siblings Class

Brothers and sisters who are expecting a new baby have lots of questions. In this class we take a tour of the birthing center, learn about what newborn babies look like and what they can do. We practice holding a baby, and fun things kids can do with a new baby in the house. We even have a yummy treat!

Time: Tuesdays, 7 to 8 pm

Fee: Free

Hospital Birth Tour

Hypnobirth

Hypnobirth offers an alternative method for pain relief during childbirth. The class is taught by Beth Lepire RN,BSN, who is a hypnobirth instructor, obstetrical nurse and mother. Classes are taught as needed every quarter.

Lactation Consultants

We have three Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultants on staff to help you with breastfeeding after you have your new baby. Simple consultations are offered at no charge and can be arranged by calling 503.435.6400.

New Moms Group

Moms with babies up to one year old are welcome to join us each week for this very informal session. You'll meet with other new moms and a registered nurse to discuss infant development, health and social issues, breastfeeding and other important topics. Siblings and toddlers are welcome! The Safe Sitter Program

Be prepared to babysit with this comprehensive, one-day class that will give you the skills and confidence to be the best babysitter on the block. Geared for 11 to 14-year-olds, the class is taught by certified instructors who are RNs from our Birthing Center and will cover basic skills such as first aid, CPR, basic childcare, as well as tips on managing behavior.
